Mahoney Transitional Scholarship Application
Funded by a grant from Brendan and Hannah Mahoney & the Bohemian Foundation
The Learning Source (TLS) at FRCC is proud to offer the Mahoney Transitional Scholarship for our current High School Equivalency (HSE) students and recent graduates. The goal of this new fund is to provide an opportunity for further education and training leading to a career path for individuals who are pursuing or have just earned a HSE diploma by passing the GED or HiSET Exam. Eligible participants must either be enrolled in HSE classes at TLS or have earned the HSE diploma within the past six months and do not yet have access to other financial aid. The scholarship will cover the HSE exam fee, tuition and fees for one or two FRCC credit classes for up to two semesters, textbooks and academic supplies, one-on-one academic tutoring, and access to on-campus resources such as personal counseling and the food pantry. Participants may also request financial assistance if they are unable to cover expenses that could threaten their ability to remain in school and complete their classes. Participants who are concurrently enrolled in HSE classes may enroll in one course per semester while finishing their HSE, and participants who have completed the HSE diploma may enroll in up to two courses per semester for up to one year or until they become eligible for federal financial aid.
- FRCC Career and Technical Education certificate programs such as Automotive Technology, Computer Information Systems, Early Childhood Education, Certified Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy, and Welding Technology are recommended because they require only 5-13 credits to complete and can lead to employment in Northern Colorado. Enrolling in another course of study is also permissible but the student’s academic plan must be approved by the TLS Director or Student Success Coach.
To be eligible for the Mahoney Transitional Scholarship, participants must meet the following criteria:
- Resident of Colorado eligible for in-state tuition
- Have no high school diploma or have earned a HSE diploma within the last 6 months
- Enrolled in HSE classes at TLS at FRCC currently or within the last six months
- TABE pre-test minimum scores of 576 on the Reading and 537 on the Math
